Pamela Peeke

2013 Speaker

Dr. Pamela Peeke will be speaking at TEDxWallStreet 2013.  She is an internationally renowned physician, scientist and expert in the fields of nutrition, metabolism, stress and fitness. Triathlete and marathoner, Dr. Peeke is nationally known as the “doc who walks the talk” inspiring through example. She is recipient of numerous national awards of recognition from the fitness, spa and wellness industries. Founder and CEO of the Peeke Performance Center for Healthy Living, Dr. Peeke is a leading thought leader and innovator in the new science of integrative medicine. Dr. Peeke was the first senior research fellow at the National Institutes of Health Office of Alternative Medicine, where she helped establish the scientific foundation for the research and development of investigations involving stress, nutrition and fitness. At the NIH, Dr. Peeke was the recipient of the National Health Research Science Fellowship and Intramural Research Training Award while conducting her original research on the relationship between belly fat and stress.

Dr. Peeke holds a baccalaureate in cellular biology as well as dual masters in public policy and public health from the University of California at Berkeley, graduating magna cum laude. After completing her internal medicine training at George Washington University, Dr. Peeke became a Pew Foundation Scholar in Nutrition and Metabolism, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland and Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Sports Medicine. She has been named one of America’s top physicians by the Consumers Research Council of America. Dr. Peeke is featured in the National Institutes of Health’s “Changing Face of Medicine” on exhibit at the National Library of Medicine. Dr. Peeke has teamed with the US Surgeon General to create the Surgeon General Walks for a Healthy and Fit Nation. She is a member of the Maryland Governor’s Council on Fitness, and is national spokesperson for the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine global campaign.

A master teacher and communicator, Dr. Peeke is a TED conference speaker as well as a New York Times bestselling author, including her latest book The Hunger Fix, the first consumer book describing the new science of food and addiction (Rodale 2013). Dr. Peeke’s Healthy Living Coach column is a popular monthly Prevention magazine feature. She is co-host of the weekly HER radio show on RadioMD. The chief medical correspondent for nutrition and fitness for Discovery Health TV, she is featured in both the award winning National Body Challenge and Could You Survive? series. Dr. Peeke is a regular in-studio medical commentator for the national networks and an advisor to corporate industry.

Dr. Peeke is the lifestyle expert for WebMD’s 90 million members, and a regular blogger on cutting edge science in health and wellness. Presently, Dr. Peeke is Senior Science Advisor to Elements Behavioral Health, the nation’s most preeminent network of eating disorders and addiction centers. Her current research focuses on how addictive behaviors have subtly and often profoundly penetrated daily lifestyle habits.
